Mercer County Children's Medical Day Care
Growing With the Needs of its
Community
In
Mercer County alone, hundreds of working
families are living in poverty, lacking health
insurance, adequate nutrition, clothing and
housing. These struggles are compounded for
parents of medically fragile children who cannot
afford doctors' visits or specialized day care
services either. "These are families without
steady jobs, furniture... or sometimes even a
front door," explained Sue Viola, President of
Mercer County Children's Medical Day Care, a
subsidiary of Horizon Pediatric Systems. They
represent the area's most vulnerable population,
as well as the driving mission behind New
Jersey's largest, privately held pediatric
medical day care center.
Mercer County Children’s
Medical Day Care (MCCMDC), has created a safe
haven for at-risk families by offering them
comprehensive and accessible health care, child
care, education and social services — all under
one roof. The program is designed for
preschoolers with complex medical conditions,
such as asthma, diabetes and other chronic or
acute diagnoses. “We provide a complete
continuum of services to address the whole child
and their entire family,” added Viola. In doing
so, the center gives their clients something
even more valuable: hope for the future.
MCCMDC
has operated at full capacity since entering the
Trenton community in 2003. The center is
licensed for 70 children and has nearly that
many on its waiting list, demonstrating a vital
need for its services. Its goal is to expand the
program to accommodate additional families,
which led to its partnership with Bartolomei
Pucciarelli, LLC, a Lawrenceville-based business
advisory and CPA firm.
“We needed to move our
business forward with an accounting firm that
offers comprehensive, wrap-around services,”
noted Beverlyn Grissom, Esq, Vice President of
Horizon Pediatric Systems, Inc., the parent
company of MCCMDC. “That’s what impressed us
most about Bartolomei Pucciarelli and set them
apart from other practices."
“We could see that the
company was about to soar to great heights, and
we were well equipped to fuel their journey to
success,” said Michael S. Pucciarelli, CPA,
Partner, Bartolomei Pucciarelli. “Our expertise
in building small businesses complemented their
existing team and resources, allowing the
organization to grow with confidence.”
Right
from the start, MCCMDC engaged Bartolomei
Pucciarelli’s advisory services to strengthen
all aspects of its operation. The firm was
instrumental in assembling a network of service
providers for MCCMDC, linking its principals
with banking institutions and other quality
professionals. These relationships have become
tremendous assets for the organization, leading
to reduced health and life insurance costs,
improved employee benefit packages, and better
payroll systems.
Bartolomei Pucciarelli also
collaborated with MCCMDC’s in-house finance
department to refine accounting procedures and
implement several tools for managing the
thriving business. The firm enhanced budgeting
and reporting processes, productivity benchmarks
and bookkeeping, while also training
departmental staff in new accounting practices
and technologies. “They provided the
infrastructure we were lacking, enabling us to
become more efficient and effective — both
operationally and administratively,” said
Grissom.
“Bartolomei
Pucciarelli has afforded us the time and peace
of mind to attend to the business at hand…
caring for children,” asserted Viola. “They have
taken customer service to a whole new level,
helping us make informed decisions and plan for
the future. Bartolomei Pucciarelli will be a key
factor in our company’s growth and development.”
At the same time,
Bartolomei Pucciarelli appreciates the
opportunity to promote more than a healthier
organization. “Ultimately, we know our work is
benefiting medically underserved children and
families in our community,” stated Pucciarelli.
“That’s an excellent bottom line.”
